There is no question that UVA/UVB rays from the sun are aging the skin. When the skin ages it loses collagen, and elastin, forms pigment or brown spots, and skin irregularity occurs. What is the most important skin care product in my bathroom and purse? SUNSCREEN!
Sunscreen should contain two very important ingredients: Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide.
Both offer broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Both are non-toxic to the skin and do not break down when they are exposed to the sun. The con regarding zinc oxide is that it appears white on the skin; almost giving a ghost-like appearance. This makes it especially difficult to use on darker skin types. With higher SPF values tinted products are great to go to because they tend to blend in more evenly with the skin.
It is important to apply sunscreen indoors before exposure as it does take a bit to start working. Reapplication is very important when there is constant sun exposure; so I recommend doing this every 2 hours. Colorescience makes a Sunforgettable 50 SPF brush that can be nicely stored in a purse or glove box.
This makes reapplication very easy because they are 100% mineral based.
Enjoy the great benefits of the sun but stay protected! You’ll be so thankful you did!
